Welcome Dr. Kathleen Phillips!
Dr. Phillips grew up in Maryland and recently relocated to Florida with her family. From an early age, she knew she wanted to become a veterinarian and has dedicated her career to providing compassionate, high-quality care for pets and their families.
She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware before attending Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated in 2001. Following veterinary school, Dr. Phillips completed a rigorous internship in medicine and surgery at a large 24-hour specialty and emergency hospital in Washington, D.C.
After spending a year in general practice, Dr. Phillips joined a referral and specialty center in Bowie, Maryland, where she worked for seven years alongside board-certified specialists. During that time, she played an integral role in managing patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Internal Medicine, and Oncology services. She also directed the hospital’s veterinary internship program, mentoring and developing new veterinarians as they began their careers.
While she enjoyed the challenges of specialty medicine, Dr. Phillips missed building long-term relationships with pets and their owners. Her passion for client education and continuity of care ultimately led her back to general practice, where she continues to enjoy partnering with families throughout every stage of their pets’ lives.
Dr. Phillips has special interests in Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Behavioral Medicine. She is Fear Free Certified and is committed to minimizing stress and anxiety for pets during veterinary visits through Fear Free practices and techniques. She also has a long history of working with animal rescue organizations and remains passionate about supporting rescue pets and the people who care for them.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Phillips enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. Their family includes a Boxer mix named Bingo, a Golden Retriever named Doc, two Boston Terriers named Bruno and Ralph, and two cats, Harry and Nikki. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, solving puzzles, cheering on her daughter from the soccer sidelines, and traveling to favorite destinations such as the Outer Banks and Mexico.
